a very smooky halloween

This is the first year Ben was anticipating Halloween and thinking through costumes for a month in advance.  He had many ideas, but seemed to have settled on being a pirate.  This summer the boys were introduced to Pirates of the Caribbean, and ever since Ben has been obsessed with pirates, sword fighting, and especially Captain Jack Sparrow.  Ben has said he wants to go to Pirate College.  When I asked him what they study at Pirate College, he said, "probably how to drive a boat and how to fight."  He's probably right.

A couple of weeks before Halloween he changed his mind and wanted to be a "smooky" witch that looked like the one on Wii's Just Dance 3's "This is Halloween".  He loves dancing to that song and knows the special dance for each of the characters.  So we put together an outfit for him- Richard found the perfect robe, and I did some duct tape magic to make it as close to the witch as possible.  Ben was happy with the outfit and now has the perfect uniform for when he plays Wii.

Owen was even less decisive, but spotted a magician's costume online he liked.  He is good at magic, so it suited him well.

We all went downtown trick-or-treating at the stores, then headed home for dinner.  Owen and Richard then did the neighborhood with Laurel and Susie, but Ben wasn't interested.  He put on his Pirate's costume and handed out candy instead.  And then changed into his Batman costume before bed.  Pretty much everyday is Halloween for a 3 year old who loves costumes.

(I was wrapping up and Ben got out of bed to visit and typed in the following words, with a little spelling assist from Mom.  He said I can't erase them, so here you go)
